The national railway operator has achieved record figures, modernized its infrastructure and strengthened its position on the international stage.

Over the past years, the company has undergone large-scale transformations and confidently moved towards new frontiers. This period was marked by the growth of production and financial indicators, the implementation of large infrastructure projects and the digital transformation of the industry.


Financial stability and growth

Stable growth in transportation has affected the financial results. In 2024, the company's revenue reached 2.2 trillion tenge, which is twice the figure for 2020. The projected revenue in 2025 is 2.7 trillion tenge. Net profit increased more than 9 times - from 16 to 158 billion tenge.

The wage fund increased from 286 to 662 billion tenge. At the same time, the company remained stable and received positive ratings from international agencies Moody's, Fitch and S&P.


Records in transportation and transit

Operational cargo turnover increased from 236 billion ton-km to 272 billion ton-km. The volume of transit cargo increased by 33% and amounted to 27.5 million tons. Container transit almost doubled: from 876 thousand TEU to 1.4 million TEU. In the direction of China - Russia - China, the growth was 14 times - from 37.2 to 512.2 thousand TEU. Container trains from China along the TITR increased 33 times by 2023. The volume of transportation with China reached a historical maximum - 32 million tons.

Renewal of rolling stock and modernization of tracks

Over four years, 424 new locomotives and 369 passenger cars were purchased. Production of new passenger cars was launched at the domestic plant "Stadler Kazakhstan", with a plan to deliver 557 modern trains by 2030. This will allow the national carrier's car fleet to be completely updated by 2030. Reconstruction of 125 railway stations has begun.
The volume of scheduled track repairs has been doubled: more than 1,400 kilometers are repaired annually (in 2023 - 1,443 km; in 2024 - 1,430 km). By 2029, 11 thousand kilometers of railways will be updated.
A total of 5 thousand kilometers of railways will be built and modernized by 2027. Today, the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section (836 km) has been completed, which will increase the capacity of the route fivefold. Also under construction is a railway bypassing Almaty (75 km), the Darbaza-Maktaaral (152 km), Bakhty-Ayagoz (272 km), Moiynty-Kyzylzhar (329 km) lines, and the Altynkol-Zhetygen section (293 km) is being modernized.


International Development and Logistics

The company has strengthened its presence on key international routes. A terminal has been built in the Chinese dry port of Xi'an. Container hubs have been launched in Aktau and Almaty, and construction of terminals in the ports of Alyat (Azerbaijan), at the Selyatino station (Russia) and in the city of Svisloch (Belarus) is ongoing.

The expansion of the logistics network has increased transit volumes and strengthened Kazakhstan's position as a key transport corridor between Asia and Europe.

Digitalization and safety

In partnership with global companies including PSA, Huawei and Wabtec, initiatives have been launched to digitalize processes and improve transportation safety. This includes the implementation of IT solutions, automation and the development of digital infrastructure.
