"Passenger Transportation" JSC launched the second train with high-speed satellite Internet on route No. 67/68 "Astana-Oskemen". The first stage of the pilot project was successfully implemented on train No. 3/4 "Astana-Almaty", where more than 24,000 passengers have already used the new service.

The new technology was implemented by "Passenger Transportation" JSC in partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb, Jusan Mobile and Kaztechnology as part of the development of digitalization of rail transport.

The connection is made using the existing multimedia equipment in Talgo cars, which was technically reconfigured. This allowed to expand its functionality — now, in addition to the internal media portal Vputi.kz, passengers are provided with full access to the Internet.

The OneWeb system with a low-orbit satellite constellation provides stable Internet even on hard-to-reach sections of the route. The connection speed reaches up to 100 Mbit/s. The connection stability is maintained thanks to equipment adapted for operation on the move and with variable coverage.

The pilot project on train No. 3/4 "Astana-Almaty" showed high demand for the service among passengers. According to the survey, passengers most often used the Internet for communication (27%), work (25%) and viewing entertainment content (22%).

"The Astana-Oskemen route has already become the second direction where satellite Internet has been introduced on the Talgo train. This is part of our strategy for the gradual connection of all 15 routes. We strive to make the train not just a means of transportation for passengers, but a comfortable and functional space where they can stay in touch, work and relax. In the near future, we plan to provide digital comfort on all Talgo train routes,” said Anuar Akhmetzhanov, Chairman of the Board of Passenger Transportation JSC.

The project includes mobile terminals for conductors to check tickets, chest video recorders for train conductors and video surveillance systems. All recordings are automatically saved in the cloud storage, which increases the level of control and security.

In addition, the introduction of the Internet has changed the payment method in the dining car - now passengers can pay for orders en route through POS terminals.
